This beautiful lake, second largest in the Tahoe Basin, is a great spot for dog-friendly picnicking, swimming, fishing, and biking. From the South Lake Tahoe “Y”, drive north on Highway 89 and turn left on Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Follow the road past the campground to the Fallen Leaf Lake Trailhead. The trail is mostly flat and hugs the shoreline; it’s one of the best places to see aspens in the fall.
In winter, the trail is popular with cross-country skiers. For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, you’ll need a Sno-Park permit.
