Fieldwork is a craft brewery in Berkeley founded on the principle of honest, straightforward beer making. The space itself is huge—a converted warehouse on Sixth Street at Harrison that somehow manages to feel both industrial and welcoming. You’ll find a proper bar setup with a solid selection of their own beers, plus they serve decent bar food if you want to eat while you drink.
The dog situation here is genuinely dog-friendly in a way that feels organic rather than performative. There’s outdoor seating where dogs are explicitly welcome, and based on what visitors report, dogs also seem to wander inside without issue—possibly because it’s technically a brewery rather than a food-focused restaurant. The staff clearly likes dogs, and you’ll see plenty of them hanging around on leashes while their humans grab a beer. You’ll also encounter UC Berkeley students who seem to be using this as a regular dog hangout, which tells you something about the vibe.
One visitor brought their hound in and watched it make the rounds sniffing for dropped food scraps while getting petted by basically everyone. The atmosphere is genuinely social and casual in that way. That said, this place gets packed. You’re looking at crowds of people and a decent number of dogs, which means it’s not the spot for a dog that’s anxious around other dogs or unpredictable around strangers. If your dog is the type to get stressed in chaos, this would be overwhelming. But if you’ve got a confident, social dog and you want to sit outside with a good beer on a Berkeley evening while watching the crowd, this is a solid choice. Just manage expectations about the noise level and crowd density.
